Buckweed Fire
On Sunday 10-20-07, as I looked outside my window, I noticed that the sky was black with smoke. I then turned on the t.v. to find out what was going on. The fire was at the time located in Agua Dulce, up Sierra Highway. Being a photojournalism student, I took my camera and went for a drive to try to capture the fire. I went as far as I could and was stopped at a road block. I then turned around, continuing to take pictures, and noticed that the fire was traveling quickly towards Canyon Country.
Since I couldn't get closer, I returned home. Later in the afternoon, I was amazed to find out that I could see flames in Canyon Country from my own backyard. I took out my camera, braved the strong winds, and spent a few hours documenting the progression of this monster. At around 6:30 pm, I finally put down my camera, since it was getting too dark and too windy to take photos. Plus, I had to help my husband put the kids to bed. On Monday, the fire continued to burn but further away and since I had all three of my kids home with me, I couldn't go scouting for more fires. So I spent some time listening to the t.v. reports and checking the internet to find out more about this fire.
On Tuesday, October 23rd, I packed the kids into the minivan and off we went to revisit the areas that had been ravaged by the fire. At one point, we came upon a street that dead ended into an area that had been completely burned down. The street is Camp Plenty and there, we found what was left of 3 homes and a few more that sustained damage too. I took more pictures, hoping to continue my photo story.
I showed my pictures to my husband and a few friends who urged me to post them somewhere so that people can see. So I put together this gallery which I hope documents my journey and the progression of the fire.
This is the result...
